Varakappallil Kesava Pilla Memorial NSS Teacher Training lnstitute is a premier educational institution offering excellence in teacher education. It was established in the year 1963 at Edamattam,Kottayam District, Kerala, in the memory of Shri. Varakappalil Kesava Pilla, a social reformer, freedom fighter and prominent personality of our region. This Institute is managed by Edamattam NSS Karayogam No. 363,pioneered by Shri.Mannath Padmanabhan, the eminent social reformer and founder of Nair Service Society. This institution has a tradition of 61 years of excellence in the field of teacher education. This institution received its permanent approval from DEO Pala vide order No.B1/6182/81 dtd 29/05/1982.In the year 1999-2000,NCTE grant recognition as per Order No.F/SRO/NCTE/1999-2000/065 dtd.22/07/1999. The first principal of the institution was Shri K Neelakandan Nair. A well equipped hostel was started in the year 2001 in the premises of VKPM NSS TTI. The institute celebrated its Golden Jubilee in the year 2013 .
Around 2500 eminent teachers in the field of primary education were contributed by this prestigious institution. Some of them were awarded by the Central and the State governments for their outstanding performances as best teachers.(P.O Chacko-National Teacher Award 2013,British Council Castme Award1996, Commonwealth Fellowship Award1994, V.V.Raveendran-State Award Winner 2023).It is noteworthy that after the implementation of Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test, 80% of the students studied in this institution have qualified this test within their study period itself. The students who have passed from this institution, have got first few ranks in Kerala PSC for many years. It is a testament to the excellence of the Institution that the alumni ofV.K.P.M.N.S.S.T.T.I have secured ten ranks including the second rank among the first 100 rank holders in the PSC, LP/UP rank list released on 31/05/2022.
It has always been a matter of great prestige for the institution that the renowned writer and Gandhian, Shri EDAMATTOM RATNAPPAN, had served here.
Apart from academics, the students here have performed extremely well in co curricular activities. Winning the overall trophy in the district level arts festival held at Ettumanoor in the year 2024 is a feather on the cap of this institution.
